Pre-Licensure Application Requirements


All applicants must be meet the following requirements prior to submitting their application between August 15th – September 15th:


  • Completed 30 college credits including transfer credits.
  • Completed the following courses within the past five years and achieved a grade of a “C” or higher. Prerequisite courses transferred from another school must be formally approved by the nursing department as equivalent before the application is submitted.
   BIOL 1111/1112 Anatomy & Physiology for Allied Health I/II — 8 credits with lab
   PSY 3237 Lifespan Development — 4 credits
   PSY 1100 Introduction to Psychology — 4 credits
   CHEM 1111 General Chemistry I — 4 credits with lab
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. This includes any transfer credits.
  • Two completed reference forms from teachers, counselors or employers
  • Proof of a completed Nursing Assistant course (or valid Practical Nurse license). Acceptable proof includes an educational transcript or course completion document from a care facility. Taking the CNA certification test is not required, nor does the certificate qualify as proof of course completion.
  • Current American Heart Association HeartCode BLS or American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR certification.
  • Taken or be enrolled in NRSG 2000: Introduction to Professional Nursing at BSU. NRSG 2000 is only offered in the fall semester.
  • Complete the ATI TEAS Assessment Exam. The cost of the exam is to be paid by the applicant. Applicants are allowed to take the ATI TEAS Exam two times, with the best score to be considered for application. The BSU Advising Success Center offers students the opportunity to take the exam at BSU, otherwise students can do the test online through ATI.
