Minnesota requires a series of exams for initial teacher licensure. Students must complete the Basic Skills requirement prior to admission to an Education program. This requirement can be met in one of the following ways:
Option 1: Upload official score reports or receipts showing you have TAKEN the Minnesota NES Reading, Writing, and Math exams with your online application for admission.
Option 2: Students may be exempt from the NES exam if they meet one of the other accepted test score combinations found on the Board of Teaching Licensure Exams website:
*The NES Essential Academic Skills (EAS) includes a “Technology Literacy” sub-test, which is NOT required for Minnesota candidates.
Students are not required to pass the Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills Reading, Writing and Math exams for admission to DLiTE. However, all tests must be passed to receive a 5 year Full Professional teaching license in Minnesota.
If you are using one of the other testing options found on the BOT website (i.e.: ACT, SAT, GRE, etc.) you MUST have passing scores to be exempt from the Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills exams.
