When our students work with a classroom mentor, they receive an authentic classroom experience!<\/p>\n<h3>Mentor Requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Currently teach in student&rsquo;s desire license area\/field of study<\/li>\n<li>Hold a Tier 2 license (for field experience) or Tier 3 or 4 license (for student teaching)<\/li>\n<li>Have at least 3 years of full-time teaching experience<\/li>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/rwg6VXnsfB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Mentor Application<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*We are unable to accept mentor applications from teachers in the Bemidji School District at this time, unless the student is already employed by the school district.<\/p>\n<h3>For Mentors<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>A completed <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/rwg6VXnsfB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Mentor Application<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a> is required for each student in our programs. Please download, complete and sign this form. The form must include your principal&rsquo;s signature. Scan and email (preferred) to: <a href=\"mailto:fastrack@bemidjistate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">fastrack@bemidjistate.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/academics\/professional-education\/fastrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2022\/02\/Mentor-Power-Point-1.pptx\">power point presentation<\/a> will provide additional details about the requirements and expectations of mentors in our program.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/academics\/professional-education\/fastrack\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2022\/03\/PEDL-Handbook-Updated-1.14.2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mentor Handbook<\/a> will also provide information about the role.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Mentor Responsibilities<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Give BSU faculty feedback on student progress in the classroom. An email to <a href=\"mailto:fastrack@bemidjistate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">fastrack@bemidjistate.edu<\/a> will always get to the right person for your questions or concerns apart from the open discussions.<\/li>\n<li>Support the pre-service teacher candidate to find field experience venues where they gain a varied grade level experience. The student&rsquo;s field experience expectations are 20-40 hours per semester. Student teaching is done in the student&rsquo;s final semester and BSU will assign the school and teacher supervisor.<\/li>\n<li>Act as a coach and mentor as needed, and answer questions posed by the student regarding experiences with certain key elements of successful pedagogy such as how to motivate students and differentiate instruction.<\/li>\n<li>Serve as resource as the teacher candidate completes classroom tasks (Examples of classroom tasks: observation, working with individual and small groups of students, co-teaching or teaching a lesson, collaborating with classroom teacher, grading papers)<\/li>\n<li>Sign field experience forms to confirm that teacher candidate served completed recorded hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your estimated commitment per semester will vary between 20-40 hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thank you for considering the opportunity to become a mentor!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mentor Requirements &amp; Responsibilities The mentor is the most powerful aspect of the FasTrack program!
