Persephone’s Embrace by Kendra Carriere<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The frozen Earth rumbles and shakes, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wakes from its glacial slumber. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Between its stress and stirring appears a crack, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As if to disencumber. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

From the ground erupts a flaming angel, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An icon of Holy Scripture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Free at last from  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forces who once gripped her. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The Earth welcomes her with arms uncrossed, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Devoid of all demur. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Her presence did wake, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resulting in a stir <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Of weeping willows,  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And waking robins, fluttering wings a blur, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

A babbling brook, released from its static pose, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trickle of trout set forth, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The leaves of newborn flowers reach, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As if to greet the virgin earth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
