BSU strives to create and sustain an inclusive, supportive, safe and nondiscriminatory community for all individuals, including those whose gender identity and/or expression differs from the sex assigned to them at birth. Furthermore, BSU will not exclude, separate, deny benefits to or otherwise treat any individual differently on the basis of gender identity or expression in educational programs or activities.

When a student/employee notifies the university that the student/employee will assert a gender identity that differs from previous representations on records, the university will begin treating the student/employee consistent with the student/employee’s gender identity. There is no medical diagnosis or treatment requirement that students/employees must meet as a prerequisite for being treated with their gender identity.

Events in the Past That Talk About Transgender People

Bemidji State University hosted a unity event for students, staff, faculty and members of the Bemidji community who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual or allies to come together and share stories and ideas for change in celebration of National Coming Out Day on Oct.11.

In conjunction with Homecoming, which takes place at BSU from Oct. 14-16, the National Coming Out Day event reinforces Bemidji State University’s role as a safe, welcoming home of all people.

The following are the events of BSU related to transgender people.

All-day Workshop on March 5 Explores Issues in Gender Diversity

Bemidji State University Celebrates National Coming Out Day with Oct. 11 Unity Event

Gallery: BSU Hosts Unity Event for National Coming Out Day

The Phoenix presents activities related to gender and sexual identity awareness

Gender and Women’s studies are an integral part of the Department of Sociology and Communication Studies and the resources below are for those who may need them.
