\nThe Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees passed a resolution in March of 2010 in support of member campus efforts to become smoke and\/or tobacco free. This site has a summary of board actions, with the information about this resolution about two-thirds of the way down the page.<\/p>\n

\nThe American Nonsmokers’ Rights Foundation maintains a list of smoke-free air policies on college campuses. The list is updated periodically.<\/p>\n
\nThe American Lung Association of Minnesota provided this Google map of tobacco free campuses in Minnesota. information.<\/p>\n

\nThe National Cancer Institute (part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health) presents a page on the harmful effects of smokeless tobacco.<\/p>\n
\nThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration presents a page voicing concerns from public health experts about the use of e-cigarettes.<\/p>\n

\nIn 2000, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published then Surgeon General Donna Shalala’s report entitled “Reducing Tobacco Use”. The report is “an examination of the methods and tools available to reduce tobacco use.”<\/p>\n

\nThe American College Health Association (ACHA) acknowledges and supports the findings of the Surgeon General that tobacco use in any form, active and\/or passive, is a significant health hazard.<\/p>\n
\nThe Student Senate conducted a survey about smoking in the Spring 2010 semester. The results were used to inform the legislation passed by the Senate in April of 2010.<\/p>\n
\nBSU works with the Boynton Health Service at the University of Minnesota to administer the College Health Student Survey annually. This document summarizes the results regarding tobacco use by Bemidji State Students from the survey conducted in 2009-2010.<\/p>\n
\nOn December 9, 2010, Surgeon General Regina Benjamin issued a report entitled “How Tobacco Smoke Causes Disease: The Biology and Behavioral Basis for Smoking-Attributable Disease.” This site has links to the full report, as well as a fact sheet and a short video with a message from Dr. Benjamin.<\/p>\n
