Dr. Ye (Solar) Hong Serves as the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for both Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College. In addition to this primary role, Dr. Hong serves on the Diversity Committee and the Bias Incident Advisory Team for both campuses. She’s also a Title IX Process Advisor and an administrative faculty advisor for the International Student Organization.

As the Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for both institutions, Dr. Hong is committed to serving students from diverse backgrounds and assisting students in reaching their full potential in various aspects of life. Dr. Hong also holds the ultimate goals of increasing diversity through creating a safe space on campus, enhancing the international and multicultural understanding of students and being an administrative faculty that students can turn to and rely on.

Dr. Hong received an undergraduate education in China, which is one of the top universities for foreign studies. She then earned dual master’s degrees from one of the best sports administration programs in the U.S. at Ohio University. She continued her academic path with the doctoral program in Higher Education, graduated with a dissertation focused on the experience of international student-athletics in NCAA Division I.

Prior to working at Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College, Dr. Hong served as the coordinator for graduate students and international students in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Ohio University. There she connected students to university resources and contributed to creating a safe space for historically underrepresented groups on campus. She also served in the Chinese Students and Scholars Association helping Chinese students transition to campus life in the U.S.

Her self-care practices include but are not limited to working out during her spare time, walking and playing with her fluffy Chow Chow, cooking some Chinese food with her partner as well as enjoying some reality shows.
