Bell(e) Collective to Perform at BSU

BEMIDJI, Minn. (March 2, 2012) — Founding members of Bell(e) Collective, Sarah Paradis and Stephanie Frye, will perform on March 16 in the Thompson Recital Hall in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex on the Bemidji State campus.

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.

Paradis, assistant professor at Bemidji State and trombonist, and Frye, tubist, have given performances and masterclasses at numerous universities and colleges in Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Paradis and Frye provide the groundwork for a chamber group of flexible instrumentation.

The duo’s name is a play on words with belle meaning beautful in French and bell referring to the bells on their brass instruments.

As individuals, Paradis and Frye teach and perform across the Midwest.  Paradis teaches low brass and music theory at BSU and has played with several orchestras including the Richmond Indiana Symphony Orchestra as principal trombonist.

Frye is the undergraduate tuba instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and performs frequently as principal tubist in Wisconsin based orchestras including the Manitowoc Symphony.

Bell(e) Collective performs works from a variety of styles and periods, including those by Charles Small, Dmitri Shostakovich, and John Stevens.
The duo will perform at the International Women’s Brass Conference in Kalamazoo, Mich. in June 2012.

More information on the recital is available by contacting the Department of Music at (218) 755-2915.
