Bemidji State students showing art in local care residence

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Jan. 7, 2011) — Visual art students at Bemidji State University are showing works in a local art exhibit called “Pathways: The Art of Bemidji State University.”

The exhibit, which opened in early November and will remain in place through January of 2011, is located at Neilson Place, a long-term care facility in Bemidji. The show includes works of students being publicly exhibited for the first time; works by advanced students reaching for new means of expression; and works of Natalia Himmirska, assistant professor of visual arts at Bemidji State, who has been internationally recognized in juried shows in Europe and Russia. “Pathways” also includes paintings by recent graduates of the program who continue to show their creative work in the region.

The exhibit features nearly 70 works by 35 different artists.

“This exhibition should bring the enthusiasm and fresh air of the younger generation into a resident community that has learned to appreciate the finer things in life,” Himmirska said.

Neilson Place is located at 1000 Anne St. NW in Bemidji. Contact the facility at (218) 751-0220 for exhibit hours.

For more information, contact Natalia Himmirska, assistant professor of visual arts, at (218) 755-3740.
