BSU presents Hansel and Gretel, beginning Feb. 20

The Bemidji Opera Theater at Bemidji State University will perform Hansel and Gretel, an opera by Engelbert Humperdinck, for four shows beginning Feb. 20.

The opera is fully staged with costumes by professional costumer and director of The Walker Bay Theater, Frederick Rogers, sets and lighting by Thomas Skime, makeup by the Professional Salon Academy, members of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra conducted by Matthew Goinz, a childrenís chorus from Horace May Elementary, and stage direction by Dr. Cory Renbarger, assistant professor of music at BSU.

Shows are double cast, with casts alternating performances. The BSU Opera Theater will perform the opera in full, sung in English with a screen providing subtitles for the audience.

Shows will be held in the Main Theater of BSUís Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. The show has 7 p.m. performances on Feb. 20, Feb. 21 and Feb. 22, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 22.

Tickets are $15 adults, $5 for children, and will be sold at the door. Admission is free for BSU and Northwest Technical College students with valid student IDs.
