Social work program offering two-day supervision workshop

BEMIDJI, Minn. (June 10, 2011) — The social work program at Bemidji State University is offering a two-day workshop in June to help social work licensing supervisors comply with changes in Minnesota state law that take effect on Aug. 1.

The Minnesota Board of Social Work has implemented a number of changes related to social work licensure that begin on Aug. 1. Among the changes is the requirement that all social work licensing supervisors must complete and show evidence of 30 hours of supervision training. In addition, the 30-hour continuing education requirement per licensing period will be increased to 40 hours, and licensing supervisors will have to show evidence of six hours of continuing education in supervision training.

On Thursday and Friday, June 23-24, the social work program at Bemidji State University will offer a supervision workshop available to all human service supervisors interested in meeting the new state requirements.

The workshop will help supervisors assess personal supervisory style and approach, articulate influences that shape the supervisory relationship, identify different approaches to supervision as distinct and integrative, examine universal components across all supervisory models, understand the impact of different learning styles on knowledge and skill transfer in professional practice and help develop conflict management and resolution skills in the supervisory relationship.

The workshop will be held at Beltrami Electric Co-op, located at 4111 Technology Drive NW in Bemidji. The two-day workshop will cost $125 and award 16 hours of continuing education. There is a registration deadline of Monday, June 20. The workshop will be facilitated by Mary Ann Reitmeir, field director of Bemidji State’s social work program; Pauline Winge, social worker at Bemidji Middle School; and Lila George, licensed independent clinical social worker.
