Upcoming events at the Outdoor Program Center

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sept. 21, 2011) — Bemidji State University’s Outdoor Program Center will hold an intermediate climbing skills lesson at the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center’s climbing wall and sponsor a rock-climbing expedition to Lake Superior’s North Shore to kick off activities scheduled for October.

Tuesday, Sept. 4 – Skills for Climbers, Part 2, 6 p.m. Cost: free; contact OPC at (218) 755-3900 to sign up or for additional information.
You understand the basics, but if you are looking to up your game you will need some new skills. Learn the essentials of sound rock anchors, basic hauling and belay escapes, and how to rig secure rappels. Bring your own rack if you have one, otherwise all equipment will be provided. Strategies for longer routes will also be discussed. Instructor: Mark Morrisey, OPC director.

Saturday, Sept. 8 – Rock Climbing on the North shore. Cost: $45.
Take your skills outside to some of the best rock in the Midwest.  We will drive early and spend a whole day at Shovel Point and Palisade Head over beautiful Lake Superior. Some indoor climbing experience helpful but beginners are welcome. Equipment, lunch and transportation provided. Call (218) 755-3900 to sign up or for more information. Pre trip meeting at the Rec center lobby 4 p.m. October 5th.
