Bemidji State University’s online bachelor’s degree programs have been ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
Bemidji State’s online bachelor’s degree programs received a score of 42 in the publication’s 2014 Best Online Bachelor’s Program rankings, tied for 194th nationally with seven other institutions. The rankings included a total of 210 institutions with another 68 schools listed with rankings not published.
“This ranking reflects the quality of our online programs, particularly the credentials of our faculty and the support our students receive,” said Lynn Johnson, director of BSU’s Center for Extended Learning. “Online courses at BSU offer the same quality standards in faculty and curriculum as you find in a traditional classroom.”
Long considered one of the state’s leaders in the delivery of online education, Bemidji State is one of three public universities from Minnesota to appear in the rankings. The others:
• University of Minnesota-Crookston, tied for 69th
• University of Minnesota, tied for 160th
In addition, Minnesota State University, Mankato appeared in the group of schools whose rankings were not published.
Other Minnesota institutions to make the list include Concordia University, St. Paul (tied for 56th) and Crown College (rank not published).
Bemidji State’s online undergraduate programs
Bemidji State offers nearly a dozen online undergraduate degree programs, including bachelor of applied science degrees in applied engineering and technology management; bachelor of science degrees in accounting, business administration, criminal justice, elementary education, marketing communication and social work; bachelor of science and bachelor of arts degrees in psychology; and an RN-to-baccalaureate degree completion program in nursing.
Online graduate education programs also listed
Bemidji State’s online graduate program in education was listed among the group of schools whose rankings were not published in the U.S. News 2014 Best Online Graduate Education Programs rankings, also announced today. That list ranked 170 institutions and included an additional 56 schools whose rankings were not published. BSU was one of seven Minnesota institutions to appear in the online graduate listing; four of those seven were among the 170 ranked programs.
Methodology
The 2014 edition of U.S. News’ Best Online Bachelor’s Program rankings compile weighted scores in four primary areas — student engagement, faculty credentials and training, peer reputation, and student services and technology — to determine an overall score. Those overall scores were then rescaled so that the top-scoring school received a score of 100 and the bottom-scoring school received a score of zero. Scores were also rounded to whole-integer values.
