Schafer to deliver Oct. 11 Honors Council Lecture

Dr. Ráchele Schafer, assistant professor of professional education at Bemidji State University, will deliver an Oct. 11 Honors Council Lecture on special education and neurology.

Shafer’s presentation, “Assisting Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders with Interpersonal Communication,” will be held at 7 p.m. in Hagg Sauer 112 on the Bemidji State campus. Honors Council Lectures are open to the public free of charge.

The lecture will explore autism spectrum disorders and examine her creation of an algorithm to help individuals communicate when struggling with communication issues caused by neurological differences.

Schafer has a doctorate in special education, specializing in autism spectrum disorders, from Texas Tech University. She has spoken about autism on national and international stages.

The Honors Council Lecture Series is hosted by the Bemidji State University Honors Council. The council is the advisory group to the honors program comprised of 12 faculty members from each of the University’s colleges. Student representatives also are elected to the council by their cohorts for one-year terms.
