Academy of Lifelong Learning lecture and RESN session highlight CRI offerings for Sept. 29

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sept. 15, 2009) — The Bemidji State University Center for Research and Innovation is sponsoring a pair of events in September, including the fall’s first Academy of Lifelong Learning lecture and a Regional Employer Support Network session on business success.

Academy of Lifelong Learning lecture: “Pow Wows: History, Culture and Symbolism.”
When and where were the first pow wows? Is the purpose of these gatherings social or spiritual, or do participants only come to dance? Are all pow wows the same? Flocken will explore these questions and more while examining the interesting history and dynamic contemporary presence of the pow wow within American Indian communities. Flocken’s lecture will be sponsored by Paul Bunyan Telephone Cooperative.

Regional Employer Support Network, “Headwaters Business Success Seminar.”
The Regional Employer Support Network, sponsored and managed by the Center for Research and Innovation, will host the inaugural Headwaters Business Success Seminar, intended to connect small and mid-sized business owners and managers to practical resources and ideas that can be used to grow and develop a local business. This one-day seminar will cover practical marketing, finances and human resources issues. The event will feature a variety of speakers including successful local entrepreneurs, lenders and state officials.

The Headwaters Business Success Seminar is sponsored by Bemidji Chamber of Commerce, Bemidji State University, First National Bank Bemidji, Johanneson’s Inc., Northwest Technical College, Security Bank and TruStar Federal Credit Union.
