Optivation wraps 2010 slate with pair of safety courses

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Nov. 29, 2010) — Bemidji State University’s Optivation venture will wrap up its 2010 instructional schedule with a pair of safety-related coursed on Dec. 8 and 9.

Dec. 8 - Brown Bag Luncheon, “Safety Optimization Program.”
Dan Rehkamp will introduce a new Optivation program designed to help organizations optimize their safety performance. The program will allow participants to customize the level of safety assistance required, from a full program and training system to a simple review of existing programs.

Optivation’s Brown Bag Luncheon presentations are offered free of charge and participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch. The program will be held from noon until 1 p.m. at Optivation’s 3801 Bemidji Ave. N. campus in Bemidji.

Dec. 9 - “Hazardous Waste Management for Minnesota.”
Michael Twite, the founder of Headwaters Environmental, Inc., will discuss ways companies and organizations can maintain compliance with a variety of hazardous waste regulations. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency imposes significant penalties against companies that fail to comply with state and federal waste management regulations; in 2009, fines for violations averaged more than $6,000 apiece. The course is targeted at any business or organization that holds a Hazardous Waste Generator’s License from the MPCA.

Twite has more than 14 years of experience as an environmental professional and consults on proper hazardous waste management methods, including waste characterization, storage, disposal, record keeping and effective employee training methods.

The course will be held at Optivation’s 3801 Bemidji Ave. N. campus from 8:30 a.m. until noon and carries a registration fee of $99.
