{"id":10474,"date":"2013-01-08T14:52:29","date_gmt":"2013-01-08T20:52:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/?p=10474"},"modified":"2021-11-01T15:16:41","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T20:16:41","slug":"sustainable-tuesdays-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2013\/01\/08\/sustainable-tuesdays-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable Tuesdays events scheduled for late January"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sustainable Tuesdays, a weekly presentation on topics related to environmental and sustainability issues presented by Bemidji State University&rsquo;s Sustainability Office, has upcoming presentations on snow-snake carving and native foods.<\/p>\n<p>Sustainable Tuesdays are held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Rail River Folk School, located at 303 Railroad St. SW in Bemidji. They are open free to the public unless otherwise noted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 22 &ndash;&nbsp;Snow Snake Carving Workshop<br>\n<\/strong>Bob Shimek, a Red Lake elder from White Earth, will share the Ojibwe snow snake tradition and teach participants how to carve their own snakes. Participants will craft a snow snake that can be used in an upcoming snow snake competition in March.<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 29 &ndash; Native Foods Cooking Class with Black Sheep Chefs<br>\n<\/strong>Black Sheep Chefs, a local catering company that specializes in Native American foods, works to revive the lost food culture of the region through a modern interpretation of the knowledge of indigenous plants and animals. Sean Sherman of the Black Sheep Chefs hosts this native foods cooking class and shares his philosophy on native cooking.<\/p>\n<p>Participation in the native foods cooking class is limited to 15, and advance registration is required. This course will be held at the Harmony Co-op Community Kitchen and carries a $20 registration fee.
