Dr. Stephen Carlson, associate professor of music at Bemidji State University, will perform his annual piano recital in the Thompson Recital Hall on campus.<\/p>\n
The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex on the BSU campus; admission is free.<\/p>\n
Carlson began teaching in the music department in 2006 and has performed at a variety of colleges, universities and festivals throughout the United States. His recital will include works composed by musicians Franz Joseph Haydn, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, and Igor Stravinsky.<\/p>\n
Carlson received his doctorate in piano performance and pedagogy at the Univerity of Iowa.<\/p>\n
Throughout his career Carlson has offered master classes throughout Arizona, Minnesota, North and South Carolina, North Dakota, and Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 2005, Carlson made his New York debut as a solo recitalist in Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall.<\/p>\n
He has been a special guest for the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra three times while teaching at Bemidji State: in 2007 when he played Beethoven’s Triple Concerto along with Michelle Laliberte and Patrick Riley; in 2009 when he played Beethoven’s Triple Concerto along with Michelle Laliberte and Patrick Riley; and in 2010 when he played Beethoven’s Triple Concerto along with Michelle Laliberte and Patrick Riley.<\/p>\n
Carlson has also performed the Tchaikovsky with the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony, Mozart’s Concerto in A major, K. 414 with the Gustavus Adolphus Chamber Orchestra, and Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals with the Mississippi Valley Chamber Orchestra.<\/p>\n
