{"id":1115,"date":"2008-11-20T16:48:02","date_gmt":"2008-11-20T22:48:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/?p=1115"},"modified":"2021-11-01T15:49:19","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T20:49:19","slug":"pawlenty-visits-bsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2008\/11\/20\/pawlenty-visits-bsu\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Pawlenty visits campus to announce on-line education initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty visited the Bemidji State University campus on Thursday, Nov. 20, to announce a goal to have 25 percent of all credits generated by the member institutions of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities to come from on-line course offerings by 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, 9.2 percent of all registered credits at MnSCU colleges and universities were through on-line sources. Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College are both above the state average, with BSU generating approximately 13 percent of its registered credits through on-line courses and Northwest Tech leading the system by generating approximately 27 percent of its credits on-line.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We live in an iPod world but much of our education system is dominated by whiteboards and lecture halls,&rdquo; Governor Pawlenty said. &ldquo;We have students with different learning styles, different backgrounds and different capabilities, and exploding interest in on-line opportunities and services.
