The women’s studies and gender studies programs at Bemidji State University are continuing their recognition of Women’s History Month with a Women and Environmental Stewardship Week, beginning March 17.<\/p>\n
The presentation series will feature a different woman each day discussing concepts related to the environment and environmental stewardship. The panels will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in the Crying Wolf Room in BSU’s lower Hobson Memorial Union and are open free to the public. Refreshments will be available.<\/p>\n
Monday, March 17<\/strong> Tuesday, March 18<\/strong> Wednesday, March 19<\/strong> Thursday, March 20<\/strong> Women’s History Month Film Screenings<\/strong> • March 20: Living Downstream
\nColleen Bakken<\/a>, adjunct instructor in English, will lead a discussion on food sustainability and the benefits of eating food grown locally and seasonally entitled “Food Security.”<\/p>\n
\nA BSU student panel will discuss local initiatives related to environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n
\nSimone Senogles with the Indigenous Environmental Network<\/i><\/a> will discuss the network’s efforts on both the local and global scales and how women in the network are working for change in a presentation entitled “Glocal IEN Efforts.”<\/p>\n
\nA Bemidji State faculty panel of Josefina Li<\/a>, faculty member in economics; Carolyn Townsend<\/a>, associate professor of nursing; and Denise Meijer<\/a>, assistant professor of nursing will present a variety of global issues at a panel entitled “Faculty Global Research Panel.” Li will discuss environmental issues related to population and economics in China; Townsend will share research on how vaccinations relate to the environment and global health; and Meijer will share insights into the ways water storage, food security and improved health affect African women and environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n
\nBSU is also holding free film screenings at 7 p.m., March 20-21, in Hagg-Sauer 100. Free popcorn will be available.<\/p>\n
