Bemidji State University’s Autism Awareness Workshops continue March 1 with a day-long series of presentations on a variety of autism-related issues.<\/p>\n
The workshop will be held in Bridgeman Hall 100 on the BSU campus. The sessions are offered free of charge, but advance registration is required<\/i><\/a>. A boxed lunch is available for $10 and can be reserved at the time of registration.<\/p>\n Morning presentations include “Transition and Autism” from 9-10:30 a.m., providing tips on helping students on the autism spectrum move to higher-level work, and “Autism and Comorbid Disabilities” from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m., providing some basic assistance strategies.<\/p>\n After lunch, the workshop will wrap with a session on early childhood issues and autism, from 1-2:30 p.m., which will offer tips for dealing with regressed speaking, toilet training and socialization for children up to three years of age, and a parent panel with tips on transitioning from school to summer, making friends and handling hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity.<\/p>\n The parent panel will feature guest speaker Pamela Mahan, a retired licensed school psychologist who raised a son with autism.<\/p>\n For additional information or to register for the workshops, visit Bemidji State’s Department of Professional Education<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n The autism awareness program is sponsored by Bemidji State University’s Department of Professional Education.<\/p>\n
