The first issue of her column was published in February 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; <strong>October 24<\/strong> &ndash; &ldquo;<span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/columns\/3868474-vivian-delgado-column-truth-and-reconciliation-succinct-overview-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">A succinct overview of education<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&rdquo;<br>\n<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Delgado shares her thoughts on education being at the heart of a truth and reconciliation&nbsp;process that could take many years to complete.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&ldquo;Everyone has their own truth, honesty, sincerity and conformity with facts,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;Reconciliation requires people work together to establish a friendly environment, to have consistent ideas without protest or harm with a goal for some level of contentedness.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&bull; <strong>August 22<\/strong> &ndash; &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/columns\/3823522-vivian-delgado-column-original-teachings-and-worldviews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Original teachings and worldviews<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&rdquo;<br>\nDelgado explores Creation stories as the source of an indigenous person&rsquo;s original teachings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&ldquo;Creation stories describe for them their geographical surroundings, their place, their relationship with the land, and their environmental knowledge and teachings,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;It is this revered knowledge and teachings that guide our inner thoughts and daily ways of life. It is how we make sense of the world around us.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&bull; <strong>July 20<\/strong> &ndash; &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/columns\/3800699-vivian-delgado-column-learning-first-teachers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Learning from the first teachers<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&rdquo;<br>\nDelgado examines family relationships that become &ldquo;<span class=\"s1\">part of the natural laws that fortify and strengthen the &ldquo;we&rdquo; in one&rsquo;s nation.&rdquo;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&bull; <strong>June 21<\/strong> &ndash; &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/columns\/3771388-vivian-delgado-column-future-and-past-indigenous-education\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">The future, and the past, of indigenous education<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&rdquo;<br>\nDelgado contemplates the meanings<span class=\"s1\"> behind Indigenous education and Indigenous studies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&ldquo;I have come to realize that not only are they are based on very ancient knowledge with roots tied to Indigenous ancestral beliefs, philosophies and teachings, they are based on ancient, diverse environments: land, waters, people and cosmos, as well,&rdquo; she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&bull; <strong>May 23<\/strong> &ndash; &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/news\/education\/3751890-native-voice-education-rites-passage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Education: The rites of passage<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&rdquo;<br>\n<span class=\"s1\">Within Indigenous cultures, rites of passage are used to keep individuals connected to their communities, traditions and beliefs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&bull; <strong>March 21<\/strong> &ndash; &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/columns\/3705473-native-voice-education-perspectives-and-reflections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Education, perspectives and reflections<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&rdquo;<br>\nHow a person&rsquo;s&nbsp;relationship to their environment and their connections to previous generations can help guide them through life&rsquo;s difficult decisions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&bull; <strong>Feb. 21<\/strong> &ndash; &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjipioneer.com\/columns\/3684581-native-voice-education-what-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Education: What is it?<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&rdquo;<br>\n<span class=\"s1\">Having a Native voice presents many opportunities as well as challenges; the goal however is to be able to share and contribute intellectually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Vivian Delgado, assistant professor of languages and ethnic studies, has begun writing a regular&nbsp;column for the Bemidji Pioneer on Native American issues and topics, including the ongoing&nbsp;&ldquo;Truth and Reconciliation&rdquo; efforts in Bemidji.
