{"id":23149,"date":"2016-03-09T16:38:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T22:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/?p=23149"},"modified":"2016-03-09T16:38:13","modified_gmt":"2016-03-09T22:38:13","slug":"homepage-opc-ice-climbing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2016\/03\/09\/homepage-opc-ice-climbing\/","title":{"rendered":"Ice Climbing Excursions to Duluth Highlight Winter OPC Schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As part of its winter schedule, the Outdoor Program Center takes&nbsp;an annual ice climbing trip to Duluth, Minn.<\/p>\n<p>The day trips leave from Bemidji State&rsquo;s&nbsp;Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center before sunrise and once at the ice quarry spend the day on climbs of varying difficulty.<\/p>\n<p>The trip allows students&nbsp;to try&nbsp;ice climbing with experienced instructors leading the way. While no previous experience with ice climbing is required,&nbsp;participants do have&nbsp;previous experience with knots, belays and basic climbing skills.<\/p>\n<p>As with its other winter activities, which include ice fishing, fat-tire bike rentals, snow shoeing and weekly excursions to Bemidji&rsquo;s Buena Vista Ski Area, the ice climbing trip helps the center provide BSU students with a wide variety of ways to enjoy winter in the North Woods.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Winter doesn&rsquo;t have to be boring,&rdquo;&nbsp;Mark Morrissey, OPC director, said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As part of its winter schedule, the Outdoor Program Center takes&nbsp;an annual ice climbing trip to Duluth, Minn.
