{"id":23570,"date":"2016-04-13T11:28:08","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T16:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/?p=23570"},"modified":"2016-04-13T11:31:06","modified_gmt":"2016-04-13T16:31:06","slug":"leadership-studies-lecture-lee-mcbride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2016\/04\/13\/leadership-studies-lecture-lee-mcbride\/","title":{"rendered":"Leadership Lecturer Encourages Open Minds for Alternative Perspectives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wooster.edu\/bios\/lmcbride\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Dr. Lee McBride<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>, associate professor of philosophy at the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, will present the first lecture in Bemidji State University&rsquo;s new Leadership Studies Lecture Series on Apr. 25.<\/p>\n<p>McBride&rsquo;s presentation, &ldquo;Democratic Vision Amid Dialectical Tensions&rdquo;, begins at 7 p.m. in Hagg-Sauer Hall 112. The lecture is open to everyone free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>During the lecture, McBride will examine the juxtaposition of conflicting ideas and the importance of recognizing these tensions in democratic contexts.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We must aspire to see our limitations and yet set goals and expectations,&rdquo; he said.&rdquo; In business, government and our personal lives, we must remain open to alternative perspectives and yet maintain and carry forward those ideas and cultural goods that remain wise.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><b>About Dr. Lee McBride<\/b><br>\nDr. Lee McBride is an associate professor of philosophy from the College of Wooster. He has written articles published in Transactions of the Charles S. Peirce Society, the Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics, American Philosophy: An Encyclopedia, Contemporary Pragmatism and the APA Newsletter on Teaching in Philosophy. He is currently focusing his research on ethical questions taken from pragmatist, insurrectionist and agrarian perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>McBride has a bachelor&rsquo;s degree from St. Mary&rsquo;s College, a master&rsquo;s degree from Claremont and a doctorate from Purdue.<\/p>\n<p><b>About the Leadership Studies Series<\/b><br>\nThe Leadership Studies Series is hosted by Bemidji State University&rsquo;s&nbsp;leadership studies program.
