{"id":26,"date":"2014-06-23T19:53:12","date_gmt":"2014-06-24T00:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/?p=26"},"modified":"2021-11-01T15:00:30","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T20:00:30","slug":"learn-to-build-and-control-our-future-overlords-at-vex-robotics-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/news\/2014\/06\/23\/learn-to-build-and-control-our-future-overlords-at-vex-robotics-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"Learn to build and control our future overlords at VEX Robotics camp (Admissions)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students in grades 6-12 with an interest in robotics can learn the basics of building and controlling our future robot overlords at Bemidji State University&rsquo;s Dream !t, Do !t Robotics Camp.<\/p>\n<p>The camp, sponsored by the&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #993333\" href=\"http:\/\/www.360mn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">360&deg; Manufacturing and Applied Engineering ATE Center of Excellence<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>, is designed for students in grades 6-12, and especially for those with a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The overnight camp begins with check-in during the afternoon of July 13 and concludes on July 18.<\/p>\n<p>The camp carries a registration fee of $300; registration is open through June 20, or until the camp has reached its attendance capacity. Registration includes lodging in BSU&rsquo;s Tamarack Hall, food and all activities planned by camp staff.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"color: #993333\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vexrobotics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">VEX Robotics<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&nbsp;provides a vehicle for students to develop critical life skills such as teamwork, leadership and project management, honed by building robots and competing with like-minded students from the community in an exciting and non-traditional environment. Students work in teams to create, design and build their own robots.<\/p>\n<p>Each day will consist of a different challenge used to create a robot. Campers will design and build a robot, learn autonomous programming and how to program their robot using sensor inputs and quadrapture encoders. Campers will learn about power sources, motors and sensors, torque and speed, programming, navigation and autonomous mode, and AutoCAD software. The camp concludes with a mini-challenge on Friday that family members are invited to attend.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About 360&deg;<\/strong><br>\nThe 360&deg; Manufacturing and Applied Engineering ATE Regional Center of Excellence is a consortium of 13 Minnesota higher education institutions. It is led by Bemidji State University and includes 12 other technical and community colleges in the state. 360&deg; is designing a 21st-century education system that prepares individuals for rewarding careers in manufacturing and meets the needs of the region&rsquo;s manufacturing employers through an enhanced pipeline, industry-driven curriculum and authentic assessment. 360&deg; is a member of the&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #993333\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mnscu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota State Colleges and Universities<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&nbsp;system and&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #993333\" href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/KzkWou\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">received a National Science Foundation award in 2012<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>&nbsp;to become an Advanced Technological Education Regional Center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Dream !t, Do !t<\/strong><br>\nLaunched by The Manufacturing Institute, Dream !t Do !t is a grassroots authority on influencing the perception of manufacturing careers by leveraging local, regional and statewide strategic partnerships to attract and recruit a qualified manufacturing workforce pipeline.
