BEMIDJI, Minn. (Oct. 28, 2009) <\/strong>— Bemidji State University presents its annual Fall Festival Choir Concert, showcasing five choral ensembles, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, in the Main Theatre of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and free to all students.<\/p>\n

Performing will be the Varsity Singers, Dammenstimmen, Musikanten, Chamber Singers and Bemidji Choir.<\/p>\n

Concert repertoire is varied from sacred music of the renaissance to contemporary selections.<\/p>\n

Varsity Singers<\/strong>
\n The Varsity Singers under the direction of Steve Reznicek, adjunct instructor of music, will sing five pieces including William Billings’ “When Jesus Wept,” “Go and Tell John” by Lloyd Pfautsch, “Glorificamus Te” by Eugene Butler, “Lamb of God” arranged by F. Melius Christiansen and “Joy in the Morning” by Natalie Sleeth.<\/p>\n

Dammenstimmen<\/strong>
\n The women’s chorus, Dammenstimmen, is co-directed by Sara Wabrowetz, a senior from Duluth, Minn., and Angela Hesse, a senior from Comfrey, Minn. Both are majoring in vocal music education. Under their direction, Dammenstimmen will sing G.P. Da Palestrina’s “O Bone Jesu” and Randall Thompson’s “A Girl’s Garden.”<\/p>\n

Musikanten<\/strong>
\n Musikanten, a men’s chorus, is formed under the leadership of the choir officers with members selected from the Bemidji Choir. Musikanten is directed by Jake Kaehne, a senior in vocal music education from Bemidji. Under his direction, Musikanten will sing Jacob Arcadelt’s “Ave Maria,” “Aura Lee” as arranged by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw, Randall Thompson’s “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening (from Frostiana)” and Norman Luboff’s “Riders in the Sky.”<\/p>\n

Chamber Singers<\/strong>
\n The Chamber Singers, who serve as the Royal Court for the annual Madrigal Dinners, will sing five pieces, including “Your Beauty It Allureth” by Thomas Weelkes and “Anima Christi” by Gaspar von Weerbecke.<\/p>\n

The Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble under the direction of Dr. P. Bradley Logan, professor of choral music.<\/p>\n

Bemidji Choir<\/strong>
\n Under the direction of Logan, the Bemidji Choir will perform a half-dozen pieces including “Magnificat” by Andrea Gabrielli and “Der Geist hilft unsrer Schwachheit auf (motet #II)” by Bach. The choir will also perform pieces by a number of 20th-century composers, including “Adoramus Te, Christe” by Eric Barnum, Edwin Fissinger’s “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho,” and Paul Carey’s “Vending Machine.”<\/p>\n
