(Jan. 13, 2010) <\/strong>&mdash; The Department of Music at Bemidji State University will host a chamber recital featuring members of its faculty on Saturday, Jan. 23.<\/p>\n<p>The recital will begin at 3 p.m. in the Thompson Recital Hall of Bemidji State&rsquo;s Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex. Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p>Featured in the recital will be Susan Nelson, adjunct faculty, on flute; Erika Svanoe, assistant professor of music, on clarinet; Jennifer Swanson, associate professor of music, providing vocals; and Sarah Carlson, director of worship and music ministries at Bemidji&rsquo;s First Lutheran Church in Bemidji, on organ and piano.<\/p>\n<p>Carlson and Nelson will perform three pieces during the recital: &ldquo;Suite in Classical Style&rdquo; for flute and organ by Gerald Near, &ldquo;Psalms&rdquo; for flute and organ by Emma Lou Diemer and &ldquo;Vision&rdquo; for flute and piano by Hedwige Chretien.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth piece, &ldquo;Nattsanger (Nightsongs)&rdquo; for soprano voice, clarinet and piano was written by Minneapolis composer Abbie Betinis for Swanson&rsquo;s doctoral recital at the University of Minnesota in 2008.
