Over 125 people attended SFE’s peaceful march to help help raise awareness about the growing issue of climate change.

The march began outside of the Hobson Memorial Union and ended at Paul Bunyan Park in downtown Bemidji, where participants met with Emelie Rivera, a member of the Bemidji City Council, to discuss what the Bemidji area is doing to combat climate change.

SFE treasurer Anna Haynes, a Bemidji State mass communications major from Albany, Minn., helped lead the march and was one of many BSU representatives participating.

“I recycle. I encourage my friends to recycle. I even pull recyclables out of the garbage can, but I can only do so much,” Haynes said. “We need the people making the decisions about what energy we invest in or what we prioritize in city planning to hear our voices and know that this matters to us.”

Contact

Erika Bailey-Johnson, sustainability coordinator; erika.baileyjohnson@bemidjistate.edu, (218) 755-2560

Links

Students for the Environment

Bemidji State University, located amid the lakes and forests of northern Minnesota, occupies a wooded campus along the shore of Lake Bemidji.
