(Feb. 25, 2010)<\/strong> &mdash; Bemidji State University, its women&rsquo;s studies program and its Women&rsquo;s Resource Center will host or be involved with a month-long series of activities to celebrate March as Women&rsquo;s History Month. The recognition of Women&rsquo;s History Month kicks off Friday, Feb. 26, with a reading and reception for the 2010 edition of Bemidji State&rsquo;s &ldquo;Dust and Fire&rdquo; anthology, and ends Tuesday, March 30 with a Brown Bag Lunch presentation, &ldquo;Untold Lives: The First Generation of American Women Psychologists.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/files\/2010\/02\/33760-womens-studies-poster_revised2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatright_borderone img-fluid\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/33760-womens-studies-poster_revised2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a>Women&rsquo;s History Month activities include:<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Friday, Feb. 26 &mdash; 7 p.m., &ldquo;Dust and Fire&rdquo; reading and reception; American Indian Resource Center.<br>\n Dr. Susan Carol Hauser, professor of English and chair of Bemidji State&rsquo;s Department of English, will give opening remarks at the event, which features readings by the authors of works from &ldquo;Dust and Fire.&rdquo; Hauser has published numerous books, including &ldquo;You Can Write a Memoir&rdquo; and &ldquo;Sugartime: The Hidden Pleasures of Making Maple Syrup.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Saturday, Feb. 27 &mdash; 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Northwest Minnesota Women&rsquo;s Hall of Fame 2010 induction ceremony; American Indian Resource Center.<br>\n A celebration of the induction of Laddie Elwell, former director of Bemidji&rsquo;s Headwaters Science Center and Bemidji State University faculty member, into the Northwest Minnesota Women&rsquo;s Hall of Fame. The event is co-sponsored by the Northwest Minnesota Women&rsquo;s Fund.<br>\n Tickets: $20, $15 for students and senior citizens. The table displays are co-sponsored by Bemidji State&rsquo;s International Student Organization.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; March 2-4: A staged reading of &ldquo;Stop Kiss,&rdquo; by Diana Son; Black Box Theater, Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex, Bemidji State University.<br>\n Diana Son reads a story of friendship, love and violence. Tickets: $5 with a good-will offering to raise funs for four women&rsquo;s groups in Bemidji, Red Lake and Cass Lake. To purchase tickets, please call (218) 755-2915 or (218) 755-2045.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Monday, March 8: International Women&rsquo;s Day.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Wednesday, March 17 &mdash; 9 p.m., poet Gabriela Garcia Medina; Hagg-Sauer 100.<br>\n Medina will present her book of poetry, &ldquo;Ink-Scribing Oshun.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Thursday, March 18 &mdash; 12-1:30 p.m., film screening, &ldquo;Listening to Grandmothers&rdquo;; American Indian Resource Center.<br>\n A film about Native elders breaking through the silence and making the invisible visible to others in their lives.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Thursday, March 25 &mdash; 7 p.m., &ldquo;Writing Women Back Into History&rdquo;; Crying Wolf Room, lower Hobson Memorial Union.<br>\n Dr. Theresa Kaminski, professor of history at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, will speak on the role of women in history. Kaminski is also the author of &ldquo;Prisoners in Paradise: American Women in the Wartime South Pacific.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Saturday, March 27 &mdash; 6:30 p.m., Third Annual Sister Song Project; Mask &amp; Rose Theatre, 501 Bemidji Ave., Bemidji.<br>\n Shannon Murray&rsquo;s spirited night of song by women, a fundraiser for women&rsquo;s scholarships. Tickets are available at the door, $5-$20.<\/p>\n<p>&bull; Tuesday, March 30 &mdash; 12-1:30 p.m., Center for Research and Innovation Brown Bag Luncheon presentation, &ldquo;Untold Lives: The First Generation of American Women Psychologists&rdquo;; Scandanavian Room, lower Hobson Memorial Union.<br>\n Dr. Marsha Driscoll, associate professor of psychology at Bemidji State, will present along with a friend.
