Thirty nine students were officially welcomed into the Bemidji State University four-year track nursing program during an induction ceremony on February 19.<\/p>\n

The student nurses had their name badges ceremonially affixed to their nursing polos by faculty and signed the Nightingale Pledge in front of family and friends in the Beaux Arts Ballroom.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jim White<\/b>, interim dean for the College of Individual and Community Health, Elizabeth Burud<\/b>, senior from Fairbanks, Alaska, and Student Nurses Association President Madison Beck<\/b>, senior from Waconia, Minnesota, commenced the ceremony with welcome addresses. They were followed by an address from alumna Stella Nelson ’86<\/b>, who was a member of Bemidji State’s second class of nurses.<\/p>\n

The Nightingale Pledge<\/h2>\n

Today I join my fellow classmates in the Bemidji State University De­partment of Nursing and pledge my commitment to the highest pro­fessional and academic standards of the nursing profession.<\/i><\/p>\n

I pledge my dedication to a profession that is responsible for the lives of others. As a professional nurse, I recognize that I will be accounta­ble to the public for my actions. I will work to safeguard the health and welfare of clients who have placed their trust in me.<\/i><\/p>\n

I pledge to work together with my peers and to be supportive in my pursuit of excellence in nursing education. I vow to behave ethically, honestly, professionally, and with integrity in all my learning endeav- ors. As a student of nursing, I will promote ethical behavior and report unethical behavior.<\/i><\/p>\n

As a future professional nurse and representative of the Bemidji State University Department of Nursing, I pledge to treat fellow students, faculty, staff, clients, and community partners with dignity and re­spect while taking into consideration diversity in values and beliefs.<\/i><\/p>\n

I pledge to advocate for clients in need and to embrace the complex role of the professional nurse. I will be a living role model for others. I recognize that my responsibility for acquiring new knowledge does not end with graduation but will be a lifelong endeavor<\/i><\/p>\n
