Bemidji State University will celebrate Women’s History Month with a culmination keynote presentation and dinner in Beaux Arts Ballroom on March 30 from 5:30 – 8 p.m.<\/p>\n
Dr. Maria Bevacqua, professor of gender and women’s studies at Minnesota State University Mankato, will present a keynote titled “Gender Justice and the Supreme Court.” Her talk will cover the historical challenges that impact women’s equality and what can be done to continue that pursuit of equality.<\/p>\n
“This event will shed light on the current and continuing activism and research women do that address inequalities in the world,” said Dr. Jozie Nummi, assistant professor of sociology and event organizer, said. “I am very excited for the opportunity to dedicate time and efforts to include the wider community in these important conversations.”<\/p>\n
BSU faculty and staff coordinated several events throughout March for the campus and Bemidji communities around the theme of “reimagining justice,” honoring women-led movements addressing missing and murdered Indigenous women and women and members of the queer community experiencing discrimination, sexual harassment and oppression.<\/p>\n
The event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n
Dr. Maria Bevacqua is a professor of gender and women’s studies at Minnesota State University Mankato. She is the author of Rape on the Public Agenda: Feminism and the Politics of Sexual Assault along with numerous articles and book chapters on gender-based violence and LGBTQ politics. In addition to her scholarship, she has engaged in various forms of feminist activism, including reproductive justice, LGBTQ organizing and rape crisis advocacy.<\/p>\n
