Bemidji State University student Maddie Beaver has gained important work experience, built an impressive portfolio of work and helped her classmates prepare for future careers over the past four years as a student worker in BSU’s Career Services office.<\/p>\n

\"An<\/p>\n

A senior exhibit and graphic design student from Brooklyn Park, Beaver was pointed to Career Services by her older sister who also worked for the office.<\/span><\/p>\n

“My sister had amazing things to say about her experience working in the Career Services office, which inspired me to look into positions there when I started college,” Beaver said.<\/p>\n

On-campus employment allows students to choose work hours that promote balance among working, attending classes and seeing to other personal responsibilities, which Maddie appreciates.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Beaver’s job responsibilities create opportunities to translate what she learns in the classroom to a typical work environment. She boosted her graphic design skills and built a robust portfolio of promotional posters, digital graphics and other designs that she can share with potential employers, all while helping offset the cost of her education.<\/p>\n

Beyond creating eye-catching digital designs, Beaver prepares classmates for success by sharing information on majors, critiquing students’ resumes and marketing Career Services events.<\/p>\n

\"Maddie<\/p>\n

Beaver believes on-campus employment teaches BSU students skills that are so important in today’s workforce.<\/p>\n

“Working on campus has prepared me for life after college by teaching time management skills and exposing me to projects involving timelines and deliverables,” she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beaver recommends BSU students interested in boosting their resumes, learning practical work skills and earning money for expenses consider on-campus employment.<\/p>\n

“I had an incredible experience as a student worker and working on campus has been great for my school-life balance,” she said. “This experience will be a great stepping stone for me in my future career.”<\/span><\/p>\n
