BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sept. 29, 2010)<\/strong> — Fall activities at Bemidji State University’s acclaimed Outdoor Program Center get underway later this week. Upcoming activities include a canoe trip, a bike ride around Lake Bemidji and an introduction to lead climbing.<\/p>\n

Oct. 1 – BWCA canoe trip<\/strong>
\n Canoe trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Superior National Forest. Cost: $70, includes transportation, gear and food.<\/p>\n

Oct. 5 – Bicycle ride around Lake Bemidji<\/strong>
\n Enjoy a group tour through the Bemidji State Park using the area’s paved bike paths. Riders will meet in front of the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on the Bemidji State campus at 3 p.m.; the ride is expected to take about an hour. Participants can bring their own bicycle or use one of the OPC’s rental bikes. Cost: free.

\n Oct. 7 – Introduction to Lead Climbing<\/strong>
\n An introduction to the art of leading. Instructors will provide guidance for this critical stage of a new climber’s development, including tips on how to minimize falls, adapt a strategy for your route and keep a climb organized and under control. This clinic is only for belay-certified climbers with previous climbing experience. Cost: free, all equipment provided. This course will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the climbing wall in the Gillett Recreation and Fitness Center on the Bemidji State campus. Those interested in this course must call in advance to reserve a spot; contact the OPC office at (218) 755-2999 for information.<\/p>\n
