(Nov. 3, 2010) <\/strong>&mdash; Bemidji State University presents its annual Fall Festival Choir Concert, showcasing five choral ensembles, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7 in the Main Theatre of the Bangsberg Fine Arts Complex.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and free to all students.<\/p>\n<p>Performing will be the Varsity Singers, Dammenstimmen, Musikanten, Chamber Singers and Bemidji Choir.<\/p>\n<p>Concert repertoire is varied from sacred music of the renaissance to contemporary selections.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Varsity Singers<\/strong><br>\n The Varsity Singers under the direction of Steve Reznicek, adjunct instructor of music, will sing five pieces including &ldquo;Psallite,&rdquo; by Michael Praetorius, &ldquo;Shut De Do&rdquo; by Randy Stonehill, &ldquo;En Ego Compana&rdquo; by Jacob Handl, &ldquo;Alleluia for Our Time&rdquo; by Jay Althouse and &ldquo;Poor Man Lazrus,&rdquo; arranged by Jester Hairston.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dammenstimmen<\/strong><br>\n The women&rsquo;s chorus, Dammenstimmen, is directed by Angela Hesse, a senior majoring in vocal music education from Comfrey, Minn. Under her direction, the chorus will sing Robert Sieving&rsquo;s &ldquo;Ombra Mai Fu&rdquo; and &ldquo;Vus Vet Zayn (Yiddish folk song)&rdquo; arraned by Stephen Hatfield.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Musikanten<\/strong><br>\n Musikanten, a men&rsquo;s chorus, is formed under the leadership of the choir officers with members selected from the Bemidji Choir. Musikanten is directed by Joe Colago, a junior in vocal music education from Browns Valley, Minn. Under his direction, Musikanten will sing &ldquo;Warum Bist do so Ferne (Why Are You So Far Away)&rdquo; by Adolf Marschner, &ldquo;A Red, Red Rose&rdquo; by Eric Barnum and &ldquo;Star Wars (John Williams is the Man),&rdquo; arranged by Slagowski, Smith and Tim.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chamber Singers<\/strong><br>\n The Chamber Singers, who serve as the Royal Court for the annual Madrigal Dinners, will sing five pieces, including &ldquo;I Love, Alas, I Love Thee&rdquo; by Thomas Morley and &ldquo;Sweet Philomel&rdquo; by John Ward.<\/p>\n<p>The Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble under the direction of Dr. P. Bradley Logan, professor of choral music.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bemidji Choir<\/strong><br>\n Under the direction of Logan, the Bemidji Choir will perform eight pieces including &ldquo;Super Flumina Babylonis&rdquo; by G.P. da Palestrina and &ldquo;O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf (op. 74, No. 2)&rdquo; by Johannes Brahms. The choir will also perform pieces by a number of 20th-century composers, including &ldquo;Mirabile Mysterium&rdquo; by Joseph Testa, &ldquo;Lo, In the Time Appointed&rdquo; by Healey Willan, &ldquo;O Nata Lux&rdquo; by David Dickau and an arrangement of &ldquo;This Little Light of Mine&rdquo; by Moses Hogan.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, please call the Department of Music at (218) 755-2915.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FOR YOUR CALENDAR<br>\n Nov. 7 <\/strong>&ndash; 3 p.m. &ndash; Annual Fall Festival Choir Concert presented by Bemidji State University.
