(April 16, 2012)<\/strong> &mdash; The BSU Foundation will officially dedicate&nbsp; Bemidji State University&rsquo;s Glas Scholars House during an open house on Tuesday, April 24, from 3-5 p.m..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/files\/2012\/04\/Glas-House-Sign.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"floatright alignright img-fluid\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bemidjistate.edu\/bsutoday\/files\/2012\/04\/Glas-House-Sign-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Bemidji State University Glas Scholars House\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Glas House was built in 1941 as the home of John and Elfrida &ldquo;Elfy&rdquo; Glas and their sons John &ldquo;Boysen,&rdquo; Robert, and Richard. Located at 1609 Birch Lane NE, the home was built in 1941 and was the first home constructed on its block. (share this photo of <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/pin\/94997873360028806\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">the Glas House on Pinterest<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>The Glas family was a fixture in Bemidji for decades, and John Glas held a variety of leadership and administrative roles in a 36-year career at Bemidji State. He was assistant to the president and vice president for academic affairs and, from 1967-68, he served as the university&rsquo;s acting president. Bemidji State&rsquo;s John S. Glas Fieldhouse, the home of Beaver hockey from 1967-2010, was renamed in his honor on Oct. 1, 1975.<\/p>\n<p>Elfy Glas donated the home to Bemidji State after moving closer to her sons and no longer having a use for it. The Glas family set no boundaries on the University&rsquo;s use of the home. Bemidji State will use the Glas House as a residence for visiting scholars.<\/p>\n<p>Refreshments will be available following a brief dedication ceremony.
