The Office of Communications & Marketing provides several methods of communication to faculty, staff and employees that are generally available for all employees of either BSU or NTC to use. We moderate email messages delivered to employees at both campuses via listservs, and publish the internal faculty and staff electronic newsletter for BSU employees.
Faculty, staff and administrators at both BSU and NTC are served by a pair of email list server systems:
- fac_staff is a listserv that is automatically distributed to all employees on campus. Campus employees are required to be members of the fac-staff listserv and there is no option to opt out.The BSU listserv reaches all BSU employees, while the NTC list reaches all NTC employees, including Distance Minnesota, and a select group of BSU employees. Fac-staff messages include reminders about important updates available for your computer, the president’s open office hours schedule, information related to HLC accreditation, and more.
- social_l is for more social announcements or for information about non-university or college events that are taking place in the Bemidji community. Social listserv posts include things such as birth announcements, information about how to try out for community theater productions, or reminders about retirement receptions. Membership in social_l is discretionary and users may opt out by contacting Information Technology Services.
Any employee who is subscribed to the listservs may submit messages to be considered for distribution. All messages are moderated and must be approved by the Office of Communications & Marketing prior to distribution. Not all messages submitted for distribution are approved. A guide to using the listservs at both BSU and NTC, which includes tips to avoid the most commonly encountered reasons that messages are rejected, is available in the ITS Knowledge Base.
BSU Insider is an internal newsletter for faculty and staff at Bemidji State University. It is typically published eight times per year, on the first Tuesday of each month during the academic year, except for January. One of the BSU Insider’s most popular features is Faculty & Staff News, which features updates on the activities and events in the professional — and personal — lives of our colleagues. Anyone on campus is welcome to submit items to be considered for Faculty & Staff News.
We accept nearly any activity done that is related to professional development — conference presentations, any type of publication, sabbatical reports, research, or anything else you can imagine. When our colleagues see fit to share them with us, we also include fun personal things that people have done — catching a fish, taking a trip or meeting a famous person. Please send photos of your activities if you have them!
You can use our Work Request Form to submit an item for Faculty & Staff News.
BSU Insider is compiled by Andy Bartlett, associate director of communications & marketing, and Rachel Munson, digital communications specialist. Contact either of them for more information about the newsletter.
Previous issues of BSU Insider are archived on BSU News.
