Prior to Your First Day: Prep

Prove you can legally work in the USA

Within 3 days of your start date, you’ll need to go to Human Resources, located on the third floor of Deputy Hall, and provide the necessary proof of your eligibility for employment in the US. Note: the best form of identification to bring with you is your passport or driver’s license and social security card. International faculty or employees contact Human Resources for assistance at 218-755-3966.

You’ve Arrived! First Things First: Get connected!

Activate your StarID- Click HERE!

The StarID is a username that replaces many login IDs with one ID, one password, everywhere.You only need one StarID: you can use the same StarID across Minnesota State to log into many services like email, D2L Brightspace, and more. Change your password in one place — — and it changes everywhere.

Here you can sign up for Direct Deposit, view pay stubs, review your benefits (if ELIGIBLE), enroll in e-learning classes, etc!

Required HR Compliance Trainings- Click HERE 

Training’s are available on the D2L Brightspace, our local online learning Environment. All campus employee’s are required to take the following online training courses on their first day of employment:

  • Campus Emergency Training
  • Data Security & Awareness
  • Code of Conduct
  • Preventing Sexual Harassment

SEGIP provides a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs for state employees and other organizations that participate in SEGIP. The state’s health benefits include medical and optional dental insurance, a pharmacy benefit, and programs that offer health coaching and worksite wellness initiatives. Wellbeing programs include life, disability, and long-term care insurance; and pre-tax spending accounts for medical, dental, vision, childcare, parking, and commuting expenses.

Get an ID Card

New employees may obtain an ID card at the Hobson Union Information Desk. New employees should bring their BSU Tech ID and your driver’s license with you to verify your identification Your hiring department can assist with Tech ID. For more information, visit their page by clicking HERE!


Another cool site you can log into using StarID and access a drop down in the top right corner for things such as self service, e-mail, timesheets, qualtrics, sharepoint, etc.

Obtain necessary keys

Obtain building keys by getting a key authorization form from your dean or unit director and take the form to Physical Plant, located on the third floor of Deputy, 218-755-3988.
