BSUSA Student Senate Statement on DACA

On behalf of the Bemidji State University Student Association (BSUSA) Student Senate, I would like to express our disapproval of President Trump’s decision, back in early September, to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA). After the United States Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on the DACA decision yesterday, we understand that the future of thousands of undocumented youth across the country is still uncertain. Although the Congress has until March 2018 to arrive at a legislative fix, terminating or phasing out DACA would leave thousands of young individuals unprotected, including perhaps many of our peers at this institution and across the State of Minnesota.

Therefore, we reaffirm our strong support for their protection and stand with the “DACAmented” students at Bemidji State University. In addition, we urge our local, state and federal representatives to take a stance in support of protecting the future of all our students. Lastly, we encourage all Beavers to do their part and reach out to their federal legislators.

Sincerely,

Eshfaq (Ash) Ullah
