    BSU Spring Swim Lessons - Session 1

    Teaching your child to be safe in and around the water is the number one priority of our American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program.  The American Red Cross program features the best in swim instruction with a strong emphasis on drowning prevention and water safety and encourages a healthy, lifelong recreational habit. Lessons are taught throughout the year by certified Water Safety Instructors and we offer small class sizes providing individual attention to your child.  All of that, plus your child will have fun!

    Free for BSU students.  This is a must for anyone looking for a challenge and a great time.  Get some of your friends together and meet in the BSU pool at the Gillett Wellness Center Thursday nights from 7:00-9:00pm.

    Beaver Freeze Ice Fishing Contest

    January 27, 2018 will be the 2nd Annual Beaver Freeze Ice Fishing contest held on Lake Bemidji in front of the BSU Boathouse in Diamond Point Park.  Check in will be 10:00am at the boathouse and fishing will take place from 12:00-3:00pm.  Early bird tickets are available and tickets are limited, so be sure to swing by the front desk of the Gillett Wellness Center to get your ticket.

    Pre-registration - $25, Students or Alumni of BSU - $20, ages 10 and under $10

    Day of Prices - $35/Community $25/Students/Alumni

    Over $1000 in prizes will given away!

    Ice Climbing - Duluth, MN

    Join the Outdoor Program Center for an adventure to the Quarry Park in Duluth, MN. Adjust your helmet and fix your gaze upon the beautiful and imposing frozen cliffs. You’ll learn to properly fit crampons, swing an ice axe, and work up the nerve to tackle vertical ice! Must have some previous climbing and belay experience. All day trip, Sunday January 28th.”

    Spa Yoga

    This 75-minute yoga class involves the five-senses and will focus on restoration of the body and mind.  You can expect candlelight, soothing music, gentle assists without being intrusive, aromatherapy, and a tasting element after extended relaxation.  Prepare to surrender and allow yourself the gift of this sensory experience.  Participants who have a current group fitness pass are welcome to participate. This class will be led by Instructor Angie Gora.

    Lifeguard Certification Course

    Participants will practice swimming rescues, CPR and AED skills, first aid, patron surveillance, prevention and legal issues. Classroom video review of topics and skills will be used along with online course work. 

    PRE REQUISTIE SKILLS: Candidates should be able to swim to the bottom in 12’ of water, distance swim 300 yards with a front crawl or breast stroke, tread water for at least 2 minutes and be able to tow practice victims across the width of the pool.

    Dates & Times:
    Thursday March 1 - 6-8:30pm- pool pretest, entries and approaches, reaching assists, surveillance concepts
    Friday March 2- 6-8:30pm- course overview, swimming assists and recuses, surface and submerged victims
    Saturday March 3- 9am-5pm- classroom and pool, surveillance, emergency action plans, CPR/AED review and practice
    Sunday March 4-9am-2pm- spinal immobilization, skills review, skills exam, written exam
