Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Please stop by or call in advance to schedule an appointment.  Call 218-755-2053 or schedule your appointment online here.

What if I need to be seen right now?

Walk-in appointments are provided on a staff available basis. Every effort will be made to see students for urgent, serious emergencies.

Who is eligible for services?

Services are available to currently enrolled BSU students.

How many sessions am I eligible for?

Students may receive up to twelve 50 minute sessions per academic year. If additional counseling is warranted, a referral will be made for further services. This may include group services at the SCHC, a referral to appropriate community services for longer-term therapy, or additional resources. Community services require payment through self pay or insurance coverage. Funding may also be available through county services for eligible students.

Who is on the SCHC’s Professional Staff?

Counseling services from the Student Center for Health and Counseling are provided by trained mental health professionals with licensure and extensive experience in psychology, clinical social work and counseling.

Will counseling be part of my academic record?

No. SCHC’s records are confidential and separate from your academic record. Information about you, your visits, even acknowledgment that you have been seen is confidential and will not be discussed with anyone without your written permission, except in emergency life and death situations and as legally and ethically required.

How do I change or cancel an appointment?

If it is necessary to change or cancel your appointment, please call us during business hours at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment, or log in online to cancel a previously scheduled session.

We want to stress that a casual attitude toward keeping appointments can significantly hinder our counseling progress and may result in termination of services.

What if I miss an appointment?

If you miss two scheduled appointments without notifying us, you will need to receive approval from your counselor to be eligible for additional appointments.
