Support and promote students’ personal wellbeing
While working in concert with faculty and staff we strive to identify, prevent and intervene with critical health situations.
We supplement academic curriculum by integrating health and wellness information.
We foster personal and social responsibility and decision making through direct clinical services, outreach activities, presentations, consultation, speakers, resources, referral, and board membership.
We contract with specialized professionals in the community to assist us in serving the increasing and changing health and developmental needs of our students.
Challenge and support, i.e., empower, students as they navigate their journey
Create student leadership and professional development opportunities through intern supervision and training, student worker experience, peer education, clinical internships, and graduate assistantships.
Increase knowledge and skills through programming, awareness events, professional speakers, and electronic and print media.
Ensure ease of access to the university and to campus services and programs
Initiate and accept referrals from faculty, staff and other departments to ensure ease of access to our services.
Initiate and accept referrals from off campus service providers.
Actively promote our services through presentations, consultation, orientation activities, and electronic and print media.
Serve as liaison between the university and the community regarding physical and mental health and safety for the benefit of our students.
Carry out assessment in support of the Student Center for Health and Counseling mission, the Student Development & Enrollment mission and the mission of the university
Assess the physical and mental health and safety needs of students through individual encounters.
Perform clinical services, which are guided by individual assessment of physical and mental health needs of each student.
Provide additional assessment and diagnosis through laboratory and psychological testing.
Survey the student body to assess trends and identify needs.
Assess the quality of and satisfaction with our services.
Conduct assessment to fulfill the university compliance with federal mandates including the Drug Free Schools Act and the Omnibus Anti Crime Legislation, and others.
Conduct assessment to monitor our compliance with state and federal privacy regulations.
Promote and support staff professional development
Participate in community consultation and services, community coalitions and action teams locally, regionally and state wide.
Maintain professional licensure.
Maintain memberships in professional organizations.
Provide and integrate research in all areas of our professional services including cutting edge research in the area of problem gambling.
Organize professional development opportunities for faculty/staff, interns, colleagues and other professionals.
Strengthen and sharpen Student Development & Enrollment through ongoing consideration of the organization and the expression of its identity
We continue to merge and expand the Student Center for Health and Counseling thus creating our new identity.
We strive to increase university awareness of the Student Center for Health and Counseling.
We support and promote the use of a systems-based collaborative approach to coordinate our services with those of other SD&E departments to ensure that our students receive the full range of services they may need to be successful.
We participate in SD&E forums and activities to encourage a mutual exchange of knowledge, to build and strengthen morale, and to maintain our student-centered perspective.
We develop and implement the use of forms and policies for the exchange of student health and education data among SD&E departments in compliance with State and Federal data privacy laws to protect student privacy while allowing for necessary coordination of services.
