Oak is home to 525 residents participating in the First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program. It has three wings and is alive with a strong sense of tradition and endless activities. Oak encourages academics through large study spaces and resources. There is always something going on here, from volleyball to game nights in the basement lounge.

Home to part of the First-Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program, it provides a unique mix of academic support and social opportunities. In addition, Oak Hall has floors designated for upper division students.

The staff and residents of Oak make supporting your academic success a priority. Visit the Academic Resource Center (ARC), where peer tutors are always around to help with coursework and regularly check in on how your classes are going. Also high on the priority list at Oak is involvement, with lots of planned activities every week.

Life in Oak Hall

Living in Oak is a great way to jump right in and get a full dose of the college experience. It’s a very social environment, and residents have a lot of fun. People are around all the time — in the game room, at the front desk, the lobbies and the lounges. You can always find a study partner or someone to hang out with. Communities: Oak Hall houses both first-year and upper division residents. First-year residents are part of the First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) Program and upper division residents (i.e. sophomores to graduate students) are part of the Community, Academics, & Networking (CAN) Program.

Oak Hall Front Desk: The Oak Hall Front Desk is located in the 1st Floor Lobby and residence can check-out items such as vacuums, carts, games, cooking supplies, tools, etc. Residents can also pick up their packages from the Oak Hall Front Desk if they do not fit into their mailbox. If a resident gets locked out of their room or loses their room key, they can check out a spare tag key at the Oak Hall Front Desk. Otherwise stop by the Oak Hall Front Desk if you have any questions!

Oak Game Room: Located in the Oak A Wing Basement, the Game Room has a pool table, ping pong, foosball, air hockey and a dart board. Supplies for the Game Room can be checked out at the Oak Hall Front Desk with a valid student ID.

Oak Garbage & Dumpsters: Oak residents are responsible for taking out their own room garbage to the outside dumpster. Please use the dumpsters either behind Oak B Wing along the sidewalk or by Oak C Wing next to the bike rack. The dumpster will be behind a tan fence. We encourage residents to break down their boxes and place them in the dumpster, not on the ground beside it.

GMW staff routinely take out the garbage and recycling in the shared community spaces.

Dumpsters and recycling containers located around the residence hall buildings are for resident use only.

Kitchen: Each floor has a community kitchen located near the middle of the floor. Kitchens are equipped with a sink, stove top, oven, table & chairs and garbage & recycling bins.

Laundry: There are 2 Laundry Rooms, one located in the A Wing Basement and the other is located in the C Wing Basement. Each Laundry Room has 5 washers and 5 dryers. Residents use their Oak Hall room keys to access the Laundry Room. Laundry is free and is connected through LaundryView.com. Residents need to provide their own high efficiency laundry detergent.

Lobby: The Oak Hall 1st Floor Lobby contains couches, chairs, TV, vending machines, resident mailboxes and a printer/copier. The Oak Hall Front Desk is also located in the 1st Floor Lobby and residence can check-out items such as vacuums, carts, games, cooking supplies, etc.

Lounges: Oak has 2 main lounges, the Oak 2nd Floor Lounge and the B Wing Basement Lounge. The Oak 2nd Floor Lounge has a fireplace, couches, chairs, TV and a sink. The Basement Lounge a TV, couches and chairs.

Mail & Packages: Each room has their own mailbox located next to the Oak Hall Front Desk. If items are too large to fit into the mailbox, residents can pick up their packages at the Oak Hall Front Desk. Residents will receive an email to their BSU student email address when a package has arrived and ready to be picked up.

Oak 2nd Floor Classroom (OAK 001): Right next to the Oak 2nd Floor Lounge is the Oak 2nd Floor Classroom. Many FYE courses are taught in this classroom. This is also a great place to host your study groups and work on projects together.

Academic Resource Center (ARC): The staff and residents of Oak make supporting your academic success a priority. Visit the Academic Resource Center (ARC) in the basement below the Oak Lobby, where peer tutors are always around to help with coursework and regularly check in on how your classes are going. The ARC also has desktop computers residents can use if they need a computer.

Sand Volleyball Courts: Outside of Oak A-Wing facing the parking lot are 2 Olympic sized sand volleyball courts. Volleyballs can be checked out at the Oak Hall Front Desk with a valid student ID.

Bike Racks: There is a bike rack on the C-Wing side of Oak facing the parking lot. It also has a fix-it station where students can fill up their bike tires and tools to help make adjustments on their bike. Residents will need to bring their own bike lock if they wish to store their bikes this rack.

Basketball Court: At the end of Oak A Wing is an outdoor basketball court. Basketballs can be checked out at the Oak Hall Front Desk with a valid student ID.

Piano Rooms: Located in the Oak A Wing basement are 3 Piano Rooms that residents can play the pianos in those rooms or practice their musical instrument. The keys to the Piano Rooms can be checked out at the Oak Hall Front Desk with a valid student ID.

Wi-Fi & Internet: Each room has its own wireless access point where residents can either connect their device with an Ethernet cord or through the Wi-Fi.
