{"id":1249,"date":"2023-02-24T15:05:12","date_gmt":"2023-02-24T21:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/reslife\/?page_id=1249"},"modified":"2024-12-04T07:58:26","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T13:58:26","slug":"housing-accommodations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/reslife\/new-students\/housing-accommodations\/","title":{"rendered":"Housing Accommodations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Housing Accommodations<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Housing accommodations may be needed for students who feel that:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>living in a traditional setting may not work,<\/li>\n<li>they will need something additional in that setting, or<\/li>\n<li>for students who need accessible rooms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Requesting Housing Accommodations<\/h3>\n<p>Housing &amp; Residential Life works in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/accessibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Accessibility Services<\/a> to provide housing accommodations for students with documented disabilities. Each student&rsquo;s needs are determined on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<h4>The Accommodation Process<\/h4>\n<p>For full consideration, requests based on medical need must be received by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>May 15 for housing beginning Fall Semester<\/li>\n<li>December 1 for housing beginning Spring Semester<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Step 1: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/reslife\/new-students\/apply-for-housing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Apply for Housing<\/a> in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/mybsu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BSU e-Services<\/a> account under the Housing and Dining tab.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2: <\/strong>Contact Accessibility Services! Please call 218-766-2139 or <a href=\"https:\/\/outlook.office365.com\/owa\/calendar\/BemidjiStateUniversity@MinnState.edu\/bookings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">schedule online<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a> to set up an appointment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3: <\/strong>Submit a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/accessibility\/apply-for-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BSU Accessibility Services Application<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4: <\/strong>Work with a qualified health care provider to have them complete and submit the Health Care Form.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5:<\/strong> Meet with Accessibility Services at your scheduled time to discuss accommodations.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h2>Emotional Support Animals (ESAs)<\/h2>\n<p>An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal that provides comfort to an individual with a disability in their living environment and is a housing accommodation authorized by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the federal Fair Housing Act. <span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/president\/policies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2022\/07\/Emotional-Support-Animal-Policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bemidji State University Emotional Support Animal Policy<\/a> for more information<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications for an ESA must be approved through Accessibility Services and Housing &amp; Residential Life prior to arrival on campus.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please follow the steps outlined above to request an ESA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Housing Accommodations Housing accommodations may be needed for students who feel that: living in a traditional setting may not work, they will need something additional in that setting, or for students who need accessible rooms.
