{"id":35,"date":"2022-01-17T12:19:23","date_gmt":"2022-01-17T18:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/reslife\/?page_id=35"},"modified":"2026-06-26T11:44:02","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T16:44:02","slug":"safety-security","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/reslife\/new-students\/community-living\/safety-security\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety &amp; Security"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro\">Housing &amp; Residential Life takes the safety and security of each of our residents seriously and strives to provide the safest environment possible.<\/p>\n<p>Housing &amp; Residential Life and BSU have established systems and policies aimed at keeping our student population safe; however, each resident is responsible for taking steps to ensure their personal safety and secure their personal property.<\/p>\n<h2>Department of Public Safety<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/public-safety\/\">Department of Public Safety<\/a> (Campus Security) provides 24-hour campus patrol and emergency services, and works closely with local law enforcement agencies. They provide a number of services and programs aimed at increasing personal safety, including:<\/p>\n<h3>Informer System<\/h3>\n<p>The system is controlled and activated by the Department of Public Safety. The P.A. system allows Department of Public Safety staff to broadcast live information to building occupants.<\/p>\n<h3>Blue Light Phone System<\/h3>\n<p>An emergency blue-light phone system is installed on campus to make reporting serious incidents easier and quicker. Units are placed throughout the campus. The phones are used in case of emergency only and will immediately connect the user to Public Safety.<\/p>\n<h3>Campus Escorts<\/h3>\n<p>A limited campus escort service is available upon request, at no expense to the user, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, by calling or stopping by the Department of Public Safety, Lower Walnut Hall, (218) 755-3888.<\/p>\n<h3>Crime Prevention &amp; Operation ID<\/h3>\n<p>Programs are presented throughout the academic year that target personal safety and property protection. These programs address crime prevention through awareness. The topics covered include sexual assault, personal safety, fire prevention, crime reporting and property protection. Programs will be offered free of charge during the academic year and also upon request. To request a program, contact the Crime Prevention Officer at the Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n<h3>Parking<\/h3>\n<p>All students may bring their cars to campus; parking in the residence hall lots is permit-only. Learn more about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/public-safety\/parking-regulations\/\">parking permits<\/a> and call the Student Accounts and Payments Office at (218) 755-2045 to purchase yours.<\/p>\n<p>Residence Hall lots and entrances are monitored by security cameras 24\/7.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Housing &amp; Residential Life takes the safety and security of each of our residents seriously and strives to provide the safest environment possible.
