{"id":32,"date":"2021-12-28T12:40:49","date_gmt":"2021-12-28T18:40:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/advising-success-center\/?page_id=32"},"modified":"2024-12-30T09:43:51","modified_gmt":"2024-12-30T15:43:51","slug":"fye-seminars","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/student-success-center\/new-student-guides\/fye-seminars\/","title":{"rendered":"First Year Experience (FYE)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro\">The First Year Experience Seminar (FYE) at Bemidji State University helps new students become competent and self-reliant learners committed to and engaged in their higher education experience.<\/p>\n<h2>First Year Experience Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n<p>FYE seminars share the following five student learning outcomes.<\/p>\n<h3>Study Skills &amp; Academic Engagement<\/h3>\n<p>Students will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>develop educational goals<\/li>\n<li>understand the requirements of an academic degree plan<\/li>\n<li>examine core curriculum<\/li>\n<li>present knowledge of personal educational goals and how to achieve them<\/li>\n<li>make decisions based on complex information from available sources including personal experience, values and programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Campus Policies &amp; Procedures<\/h3>\n<p>Students will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>demonstrate the ability to use information on campus policies and procedures and apply them<\/li>\n<li>understand the requirements of codes of conduct<\/li>\n<li>have knowledge of the institutional governance systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Campus Engagement<\/h3>\n<p>Students will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>determine the balance between academic course load requirements, work and leisure time<\/li>\n<li>construct goals for academic requirements, work, leisure time<\/li>\n<li>identify opportunities to be involved in curricular and co-curricular activities based on personal, ethical, spiritual and moral values<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Peer Connection<\/h3>\n<p>Students will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>establish relationships with fellow students, staff, faculty, academic advisors and other institutional partners<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate ability to listen to others&rsquo; points of view<\/li>\n<li>treat others with respect<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Health Education &amp; Wellness<\/h3>\n<p>Student will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>identify personal behaviors and environments that promote health and reduce risk<\/li>\n<li>recognize services provided to support a healthy lifestyle and healthy campus community<\/li>\n<li>distinguish the relationship between health and the development of lifelong goals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The First Year Experience Seminar (FYE) at Bemidji State University helps new students become competent and self-reliant learners committed to and engaged in their higher education experience.
