International Students

Come to Bemidji State University

Named a top-tier Midwest university for 2009, 2010 and 2011 academic years by U.S. News and World Report, Bemidji State University is located on the shores of beautiful Lake Bemidji in Bemidji, Minnesota (four hours northwest of Minneapolis).

Our Students

Bemidji State University welcomes international students from around the world. BSU is a public university, founded in 1919 with a current enrollment of approximately 5,000 students from 45 states and 40 foreign countries, all of whom benefit from the vast resources of the Minnesota State College and Universities System (MnSCU). Our signature themes include the global family, environment, and civic engagement.

Academic Program Offerings

BSU is both an undergraduate and graduate coeducational state (public) supported institution. The University offers bachelor and master degree programs, and is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities.

Our Faculty

BSU offers a distinguished faculty with the majority of faculty members having reached the highest degree level in their respective fields. Faculty are graduates of major U.S. institutions including Cornell University, Purdue, University of Minnesota, University of Iowa, University of Illinois, Texas A & M, Virginia PolyTech, and University of Wisconsin, as well as Bemidji State University.

Academic Calendar

The academic year is divided into two sixteen-week semesters. Each semester is a complete unit of study requiring examinations and completion of coursework. BSU also offers courses in the summer. Summer session begins in June and ends in mid-August. Course lengths vary from 3-5 weeks within the summer session dates.
Please note: New entering international students may not initiate study beginning in a summer session.

Costs

Bemidji State University is pleased to be able to offer resident tuition rates to international students. This results in a substantial savings in tuition costs to international students. Along with the very competitive tuition rates, BSU also offers ‘banded tuition’ for undergraduate on-campus students. This means the tuition rate stays the same for 12-18 credits. Banded tuition allows students to plan more efficiently for degree completion.

Activities and Recreation

Outdoor Program Center

The nationally-recognized Outdoor Program Center with its new lakeside facility rents kayaks, canoes, pontoons, sailboats, ski boats, x-country skies, mountain bikes, tents, backpacks, snowshoes, fish houses, and sleeping bags for rental. Weekend trips and semester break trips available at student-discounted prices.

OPC's lakeside boathouse is nestled in Diamond Point Park, just steps away from campus. The park offers lakeside benches and walkways, grills, and gazebos - a perfect combination for a quick study-break getaway. A newly built biking and walking trail winds it way along the lake and through campus, offering students a great outdoor experience that's handy and inexpensive.

Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center

The Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center offers state of the art equipment and facilities that will help you slim down, tone up, de-stress, or just plain play. Students meeting minimum enrollment requirements can use the facilities for free. The facility includes four activity courts adaptable for basketball, tennis, volleyball, and badminton; a six-lane 200 meter indoor track; free and fixed weight rooms; five racquetball courts; a state-of-the-art climbing wall; a six-lane 25 year pool; a spacious dance studio; and a variety of cardiovascular equipment.  Various programs are offered throughout the summer.

Activities

There is also a variety of activities on campus to take part in throughout the summer. Past events have included bowling nights, movie nights, special deals on food/beverages at the Lakeside Food Court, giveaways, tie-dye, musicians, games and more. These events are advertised through campus emails, posters, flyers, and calendars that will be distributed at events, in the Residence Halls and the Hobson Memorial Union Information Desk.
