The mission of the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Sport is to provide students with opportunities to excel through purposeful experiences resulting in skills for lifelong learning, skills for citizenship, and skills for work that include communication, use of technology, and appreciation of individual differences. Through our programs, students develop an appreciation of the contributions of physical activity and sport to health by developing personalized exercise programs.
Sport Management offers specialized training and education for individuals seeking careers in the sport business industry. The Sport Management curriculum is designed to meet the NASPE/NASSM accreditation requirements: sociocultural dimensions, management and leadership, ethics, marketing, communications, budget and finance, legal aspects, economics, and governance.Students have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by completing a 400-hour internship in a sport management setting of their choice. This required internship provides an opportunity to apply management principles and concepts learned in the classroom.

Students are encouraged to discuss with their advisor the option of a second major or minor that might strengthen or complement their major, such as Business Administration, Community Health, Exercise Science, Mass Communication, or Physical Education.
Interscholastic/Intercollegiate/Professional Sport Organizations, Campus Recreation, Sport Communications, Physical Fitness Industry, Sport Marketing and Promotion, Sport Event and Facility Management, Sport Management and Marketing Agencies, International Sport, and Sport Tourism.
Transfer Students: At least one-third of the credits to be included in the major must be successfully completed at Bemidji State University.
