Cultural Resource Management Minor

Management is a growing field in public history and the arts. Graduates who hope to work at historical societies, archives, historical and/or arts facilities will often find themselves managing a variety of collections related to history, art, and music. This minor serves history majors and those in performing or visual arts, as well as business majors and others who may wish to pursue a career in cultural resource management.

Terms of Internships:

Sponsoring Organization

  • Student will participate in the administration of a project, task, event or similar activity. Tasks might include planning, arranging, promoting, managing, editing, and archiving. (Participation as an artist will not be accepted as a substitute for administrative work.)
  • Student will work 16 hours for each credit (2 credits = 32 hours). The duration of the internship will be determined case-by-case. For example, the writers conference internships are two credits and are completed in five days.
  • Letter of agreement.
  • Closing letter of verification and evaluation.

PRACTICUM
Take a practicum course (minimum 2 credits) in a discipline related to the humanities or arts. Example: ENGL 4861, 4862 Practicum in Literary Careers, Publishing, and Management I, II.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING LEADERSHIP, FUNDRAISING, AND RELATED TRAINING
Attend a professional development training seminar in leadership, fundraising or a related topic of at least 32 hours in length. Example: Northwest Minnesota Foundation Leadership and Management Training. Credits to be arranged with a History advisor for the minor.
