Liberal Studies, B.A.

Plans for each student’s course of study are developed in consultation with an advisor either from or designated by the Philosophy program. Courses must be taken in the disciplines listed below.

No more than 23 credits for the Liberal Studies major may be applied toward a double-major or second degree in the designated disciplines.

Requirements for the Liberal Studies Major

Completion of 45 semester credits in the student’s choice of courses from the following disciplines, with at least 30 of the 45 credits at the 3000-4000 level. (Note: Successful completion of 40 credits at the 3000-4000 level is a MnSCU requirement for any bachelor’s degree.)

Admission to the Program

A letter of application submitted to the chair of the Department of Humanities is required for admission to the Liberal Studies major. Ideally it would be submitted before the student’s senior year. It should contain the following:

The letter is reviewed by the program’s advisor. When an application is approved, the student may declare the major.
