Theatre Major, B.A.

Students in this program should prepare their schedules in consultation with their assigned Theatre advisor.

IMPORTANT NOTICES:

1. Extensive participation in departmental programs and activities is expected of majors and minors and is a significant factor in departmental screening criteria.
2. Theatre majors are required (and minors are recommended) to prepare and maintain an ongoing portfolio. See the department chair.

A. Theatre Production Emphasis

THTR 2040 Stage Makeup (3 credits)
THTR 3640 Scene Design (3 credits)

THTR 3660 Stage Costuming (3 credits)
THTR 4020 Portfolio (1 credit)
Students pursuing this emphasis are strongly encouraged to also take courses from the Visual Arts and Design Technology programs.

A Total of 128 Semester Credits is Required for a Bachelor's Degree

B. Theatre History/Literature Emphasis

THTR 2030 Introduction to Scriptwriting (2 credits)
THTR 3705 or THTR 3706, whichever is not taken for the core (3 credits)
THTR 4300 Theatre of the Great Playwrights (3 credits)
THTR 4820 Seminar in Theatre/Speech (2-3 credits)
Electives to achieve minimum of 45 credits (3-4 credits). Electives must be approved by the department. ENGL 4420 Shakespeare and His Age is particularly recommended.

C. Performance Studies Emphasis

THTR 2200 Introduction to Performance Studies (2 credits)
THTR 2320 Voice and Articulation (2 credits)
THTR 3200 American Musical Theatre (3 credits)
THTR 3220 Advanced Stage Acting (3 credits)
Electives to achieve minimum of 45 credits (4 credits). Electives must be approved by the department. Students pursuing this emphasis are strongly encouraged to take vocal lessons and/or participate in a singing ensemble and to take dance courses offered by the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Sport.
